Born and raised in Kentucky, I am a fine art/portrait photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I got my start at the age of 2½, when a Kodak Brownie camera became my constant companion. I learned how to use the darkroom when I was in 7th grade. I received my MA in Photography and Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin in 1979 and opened a gallery soon thereafter. I stopped making work and for ten years ran The Baker Gallery, which exhibited 20th century fine art photography. My own pictures, which I began making again on my 40th birthday, have been included in exhibitions across the country and can be found in the collections of the Portland Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art, the Center for Creative Photography, the University of Kentucky Art Museum, Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center/University of Texas at Austin, Cassilhaus and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, to name a few. My photographs are published regularly in Sun Magazine and New Letters Magazine. Book titles include: From the Heart: A Mosaic of Memories, Among the Ashes, ConvergenceKutuuka and I Hope You Find What You're Looking For. I was the founding director of the non-profit organization “Change the Truth” which, from 2007 through 2019, provided assistance and opportunities to Ugandan children affected by war, poverty and disease.
