Yesterday I went to Cannon Beach to drop off work at White Bird Gallery, and I decided to stroll on the beach for a bit before heading back to Portland. It was a beautiful afternoon, and the beach was jam packed. I was in my happy place making pictures.

When I got home, I popped my memory card into the card reader to take a look at the images I made. The first one I opened looked corrupted, so I went on to the next. It, too, was damaged. My heart sank as I soon realized they were all messed up.

But then I realized they weren’t really messed up at all. That they looked dream-like, nostalgic. Like discolored or faded prints and Kodachromes from scenes dating back to the 1950’s or 60’s. They reminded me of the way things often looked on early color TVs when we had to adjust the rabbit ear antennae to get things in focus.

I don’t know if this malfunction will happen again. But I really hope so.
