My son, Max, is following in his father's footsteps by joyfully doing what he can to make the world a better place by volunteering his time, talent and energy. Max is a pediatric cardio anesthesiologist who recently used his vacation to travel to Mexico with Heart Care International on a medical mission trip. Max has a YouTube channel, and yesterday he posted the 14-minute video he made about the experience. Watching Max's videos over the years has helped me get more comfortable with graphic medical descriptions and procedures. I'm glad I watched the surgery part of this particular video, because I got to see a one-year-old's beating heart!
And someone patching it up! Such a miracle. I'm sharing it here because everything about it is just so damn cool.
Thank goodness for the "helpers," to quote Mister Rogers. It's easy to forget there are countless people who just keep their heads down and do the important, quiet work (in large and small ways) of caring for others. I couldn't be more proud that Max is one of them. And I know Eddie feels the same way.
